Great horned owls (Bubo virginianus) are some of the most magnificent of the raptors. I’ve been privileged to see quite a few of them in and around New York City. While I update this page, you can find more photos of Great Horned Owls on the Owls page on this site.

A Family of Great Horned Owls in Queens, 2022

I visited a park in Queens on April 1, 2022, to see two great horned owlets in their nest. While I was watching the kids, a parental unit flew into a nearby tree, I think to protect the kids from a red-tailed hawk that had been flying around.
