I've taken a lot of photos and video of eastern gray squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis), delightful rodents that have taken over Central Park and look so cute when they beg for peanuts. It is so hard to resist them.

This gray squirrel was poking his head out whenever a more mangy squirrel ran up the tree. He went back inside the hole when the mangy squirrel came down to chortle at him. Central Park, January 17, 2023

A walk in Central Park often results in being followed by a bushy-tailed rat seeking peanuts. This slide show shows how photogenic many of them can be. The shots were taken May 1-May 18, 2020.

A very funny squirrel made us laugh when she climbed in and out of a trashcan near the picnic tables in front of the visitor center of the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in May 2017.
